On Saturday I leave for my big trip to Alaska. We are going to fly out of Minneapolis to Seattle. Our ship will leave Seattle on Sunday morning and our route is set for Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Vancouver and back to Seattle.

I am pleased to be traveling with my parents. My stepfather is getting older and my parents have always wanted to go on this trip. Now that I am in the travel business I have been able to find them a great trip. They asked me to go along as well. What an honor!

Of course it is much more reasonably priced to go to Alaska right now. Why is that?

1) Economy - If you have money right now then it is a great time to travel. If you have a job and didn't overspend over the past 5 years then you are in good shape to enjoy great deals.

2) H1N1- This was a scare for the travel industry this summer. Many people changed plans or delayed plans. It should be a concern across our globe, but I personally won't be changing my travel plans because of the flu. We can all take measures to protect ourselves.

3) More Opportunities - There seems to be more boats and more travel in the Alaska area. Competition appears to have dropped the prices somewhat. However, ships are always retiring and changing ports...so don't wait!

Anyone who makes four sales now have their monthly fees waived! Best part is that you can either choose to join the rep business or just become a retail customer of  my home-based travel company.  A retail customer is defined as an LTC or dream vacation member.

We can all agree not everyone wants to be involved in the network marketing business. My company’s solution to this is to provide an opportunity for retail customers. They will now have an incentive to refer other retail customers.

Do you have to be a travel agent to join this home-based travel business? No, but here are the reasons why existing travel agents should consider this business...

USA Today Reports Direct Sales as Recession Proof Jobs...

The only beef I have with this article is that they call it a job Remember in my company you are traveling with friends and family. What a job!!!

The next opportunity you have with my company is to become a BTA (Booking Travel Agent). Now if you already have experience as a travel agent, you may be able to bypass this step with a test. However, let’s say you have always dreamed of working as a travel agent. Now you desire to run a home-based travel agency. The BTA training is your next step.

You will take 10 classes to become proficient in the travel industry each class is offered online and you will take a final exam at the end of each class. Now even though it is online, there is an instructor available for you to email for Q&A. I personally have taken these courses. I was able to get through them in about 2 months. I work a full-time job outside of this business, so that was in my own time. A person can work through them as quickly or as slowly as they desire.

After the 10 classes are completed, you will then take one final test. Again, I passed it with flying colors. Not that I am bragging, I just want you to know that it can be done by someone who has not had a travel agency background.

Do you have to do this to be a part of the business? Heck no! You can stay focused on selling travel directly through your automated travel website and present the opportunity of the travel business to others. A large percentage of the people in this business do just that. They enjoy dream vacations, travel with friends and family, and promote the business opportunity. The choice is yours…

What’s the advantage to BTA? Your commissions go up from 50% up to 70% on all the travel you book with your direct clients. Not a bad pay hike!! Plus this prepares you for the next opportunity of TRS. I will discuss that in my next blog post.

Attraction marketing is the fastest growing segment on the web for network marketers. As I alluded to earlier, not everyone is interested in joining your business.

So you might ask, “How do I find business partners if they are not my friends, family member, or anyone I can get to come to a meeting?”

Answer: You attract them. There are a number of ways to do this. But the main method is by going out on the web and starting blogs, webpages, Squidoo lenses, writing articles, etc. about your topic of interest. This will attract people to you that have the same interest.

For example, I have begun to write about travel. I set up a trip to Mexico for some friends recently and was concerned about the travel advisories. I had trouble locating one good site that listed the various places to find out information. Therefore, I gathered together a number of resources on travel advisories and travel alerts. I created a Squidoo lens about this topic. This will start to attract people to me that have an interest in travel and travel warnings. I then promoted my Squid Lens on Twitter. Twitter has been all the rage in the media so I don’t think I need to explain further about the microblogger (140 characters or less).

First step after you join my company is that you become a Leisure Travel Consultant (LTC). I just LOVE that name. If I would have known I was going to aspire to become a Leisure Travel Consultant I might not have felt as guilty partying in college… J

Seriously though, this is a great opportunity to get started in the travel business. You take a short quiz to become an LTC. We have a video for you to watch for guidance and then the short quiz. You will take the quiz until you pass. Nothing to get worked up over. However, the opportunity for you to start earning commissions in the travel industry begins there. Once you become an LTC, you are officially able to earn commissions on your own travel website. How cool is that?

How many people do you know who book their travel through Orbitz, Priceline, Hotels.com, Expedia.com, etc.? Of those people, how many of them earn a commission on the travel they book on those websites? NONE! You are exactly right! Why not? Well, because the owners of those websites earn the commission. So if they could get the same (or maybe even better) deals on your website, do you think you they would use it? The answer is yes. They will use your website because they will find great deals for hotels, car rentals, airfare, etc. And the best part is you will earn a commission on all the travel booked through your website. The short answer is No and the long answer is…absolutely Not!

Let me explain.

You could sign up to become a business owner with a network marketing company, whether it is in travel with me or something else. Then you could contact all your friends and family members and sign them up to join the business. Chances are you will sign up a couple, scare a few, and make enemies out of a few more. The few you do sign up will drop out within 3 months because they haven’t become wealthy like YOU promised. Then you will begin to doubt yourself and your future with your chosen company.
